The total households of the Dharmapur VDC are 1348 whereas total population is 8092 (Muslim-1264, Dalit-1049, Yadav-3179, Kurmi-5, Kalwar-287, Teli-90, Kanu-447, Koiri-96, Malaha-109, Baniya-135, Kumhar-110, Lohar-200, Others-1121). The project is particularly focused in ward-4 and 5 of this VDC. The dominance caste groups are Muslim, Dalits and Yadav. This VDC is located along the western bank of Bagmati River. Although located at plains, this VDC is highly disadvantaged in the term social and economic, and environmental development. Vulnerability and food insecure are the prime concerns of the people. The armed internal conflict of past twelve years has devastated the social, economic and even political fabrics of this society. They have not yet been able to get out from this vicious circle of poverty trap. Increased human pressures have been posed on available natural resources has resulted in ecological degradation. Their livelihood is becoming harder and harder leaps and bound and it has lead to increased participation of these groups in activities related to environmental degradation. Local people are not aware on the different RETs and are facing information barrier, technological barrier, and financing and financial barriers for promotion and adoption of those RETs.

Local poor, women, youths, Dalits, ethnic and religious minorities, indigenous people, conflict victims and the youths and their family members are the main target group of the project. However, the final beneficiary is very high with the contribution the project would bring to the families and friends of the at-risk or vulnerable and victims. It is expected that at least 3,000 beneficiary populations from the affected and vulnerable communities, children, women, youths and community members sustaining peace, policy makers, journalists and readers, researchers and change makers will indirectly be benefited from the project. In addition, media coverage and replication of best practices in neighboring communities will increase the number of final beneficiary. New CBOs will be formed in the proposed VDCs as per need and functional groups will be formed among the CBOs members.
