This project aims to promote rehabilitation of degraded land that enhances biodiversity conservation whilst improving livelihood of the targeted poor community members in four kebeles (Dodicha, Abayi Danaba, Aluto and Golba Aluto) in Northern Aluto Catchments of Adami Tullu Jiddo Komolcha District by December 2013. These are planned to be attained though strengthening the technical and institutional capacities of local environmental actors; undertaking appropriate natural conservation and rehabilitation measures in 600 ha of degraded land in three PAs (Dodicha, Abayi Danaba, Aluto and Golba Aluto); and also through promoting alternative livelihood options for forest dependent 350 poor families and unemployed youth. In doing so, the project expects to have enhanced technical and institutional capacity of the local environmental actors (community and relevant stakeholders on the importance and strategies of biodiversity conservation and rehabilitation of degraded lands; recovered PAs (targeted degraded areas) in their natural resource condition; and improved livelihood asset conditions of forest dependent poor families by the end of the project.
