Developing Alternative Vegetable Protein Source For Community by Koro (Local Nuts) Plants Conservationin Dry Land
GGOAL
The conservation of Koro (local nuts) diversity is maintained as the effort to achieve food security in Wonogiri.
OBJECTIVES
Objective 1 : Developing and managing the koro products to meet the as quality standard agreed in four villages (Tegiri, Selopuro, Banyakprodo, and Ngargoharjo)
Indicator : 1. Existing quality standard (type, shape, color) as agreed between the farmers and traders.
2. Existing save and effective model for post-harvest processing and storage system for koro seeds.
3. There are four farmer groups able to routinely organize results from koro harvest
4. There are five types of potential koro (Benguk, Glinding, Gude, Cipir, Begog/Pedang) that are conserved through cultivation, Koro Field School, and seedbanks system.
Activities : 1. Facilitating koro cultivation field schools that include the following topics: seeds, types of vine, effective harvesting, post-harvest processing.
2. Facilitating forum between producers or farmers and traders to agree on the quality standard of koro and its marketing system.
3. Facilitating group in collecting and buying koro based on the quality standard including the storage system.
4. Processing post-harvest products by sorting koro seeds based on the agreed quality standard
5. Selecting the sorted koro seeds and storing them using the agreed safest storage system
6. Facilitating collaboration between group/business unit with koro farmers in their respective area
7. Conducting capacity building for business unit management in collecting and managing koro selling (including: selection, storage, selling-price selection, marketing)
8. Preserving five types of potential koro (Benguk, Glinding, Gude, Cipir, Begog/Pedang) through cultivation, Koro Field School, and seedbanks system.
Objective 2 : Improving farmers? capacity by conducting capacity building in business management, access and capital, developing processed product, and marketing.
Indicator : 1. Existing simple business planning and management plan made participatory by the farmers? group
2. Farmers have capital to support their business.
3. There are two koro-based processed products that are ready to sell.
4. Existing skilled group to develop materials as well as packing and labeling model for koro products
5. Five SP-IRT (The Licensing Letter of Domestic Industry) this letter is issued by The District, is a guarantee of quality food products that are marketed. for two types of refined products made from raw koro issued by the Department of Health Kab.Wonogiri.
Activities : 1. Conducting training on business group management.
2. Conducting financial training for business and accounting.
3. Facilitating collaboration between farmers and officials, privates, and financial institutions.
4. Conducting training on packing and labeling for the processed products.
5. Facilitating collaboration with Health Office to endorse PIRT ( The Licensing Letter of Domestic Industry)
Objective 3 : Improving economical condition of farmers by developing potential market.
Indicator : 1. 25 farmers have the ability and experience to market the koro-based products
2. Existing leaflet regarding the benefit of koro-based products for promotion purposes.
Activities : 1. Facilitating survey on potential and potential market for koro-based products
2. Facilitating business meeting or joint forum between farmers, traders, and koro consumers.
3. Promoting and marketing the koro-based processed products to stalls, small shops, canteen, and community forum.
4. Publishing the high nutrients contained in koro as one of the ways to improve health condition of community
Objective 4 : Monitoring and Evaluation
Indicator : 1. Existing monitoring and evaluation to observe status, achievement, and success of the programme.
2. Compilation of stories based on the lessons learned of all involved stakeholders.
Activities : 1. Facilitating forum between farmers, processed-food developer, trader, and consumer to monitor the entire system.
2. Facilitating forum between farmers, processed-food developer, trader, related government agencies, and consumer to evaluate the system
3. Collecting stories from the field experiences and lesson learned.
EXPECTED OUTPUT
1. Koro farmers? income are increased minimally 30%.
2. The nutrition of poor farmers family are improved because of the vegetable protein contained in the koro.
3. Increasing number of conservation plants for dry area.
4. Increasing number of koro-based processed food business in the rural area
5. Increasing market for koro, both the fresh and processed products
6. Existing koro seed banks
7. Existing media and documentation on field experiences such as film, learning guide, and leaflets on the benefit of koro
Participants and/or Project Beneficiaries
Direct : 300 people (80% women) from four villages in three sub-Districts in Wonogiri District
Indirect : 1,650 people (80% women) as producers, collectors, traders, consumers, food-processing developer & workers in neighboring District such as Wonogiri, Pacitan, Ponorogo & Gunung Kidul.
