Ecotourism-based Conservation of Menoreh Karst Area in Jatimulyo Village, Girimulyo sub-District, Kulonprogo District, Yogyakarta
GOAL :
Establishment of pilot project for karst area management based on the knowledge and local wisdom for further reference in replicating karst area management in Indonesia
OBJECTIVE 1
Increasing capacity of community
Indicator :
1. Existing participatory film documentation
2. Improving performance of the ecotourism village as measured by the increasing visit of 15% and visiting period of 10%
3. Improving economical condition of community as measured by two souvenir stalls and addition of at least ten motorcycle taxi service provider.
4. Existing ecotourism guide team consist of 15 people with specific specialization (bird watching, caving, art, and culture)
5. Existing 20 homestay
Activities :
1. Conducting Participatory Rural Appraisal (PRA) to identify the natural resources and its threats.
2. Conducting Focus Group Discussion (FGD) to publish awareness on the ecotourism potential in the area and to strengthen the concept of ecotourism within the stakeholders involved, especially community.
3. Conducting training for tour guide and homestay provider on what are the specific skills that they will need. It will include guide skills for caving, bird-watching, and art-culture activities
OBJECTIVE 2 :
Developing the ecotourism including its infrastructure and promotion
Indicator :
1. Existing ecotourism information center and secretariat that is equipped with complete information regarding the karst area management.
2. Existing caving and bird watching package that fulfilled the requirements
3. Increasing visiting period of 10
4. Successful promotion measured by increasing number of visits of 15%
Activities :
1. Improving and restructuring the secretariat of village ecotourism as the center for coordination, information, and environmental education.
2. Procuring equipment to support the ecotourism
3. Producing promotion tools for the ecotourism
4. Repairing the clean water channel to homestay area by adding new water channels. It is expected that 100 houses will be able to access this clean water facilities.
5. Testing the ecotourism package for three times by checking on the management, homestay owner, guides, and community in general on their awareness on ecosystem
OBJECTIVE 3 :
Conserving the environment
Indicator :
1. Existing discussion forum of community with concern to karst area forest (consist of 20 people)
2. 2,000 trees in Sukomoyo Hamlet are planted
3. The sanitation in karst area is improved by having five unit of communal composters and decreasing wastes in three under ground river system
4. Butterflies and birds are conserved by procuring five feeding ground demonstration plot.
5. The animal fodders are optimized by two farmers? group in Sukomoyo by applying probiotic.
6. Existing environmental education by having green club of community reading center that consist of 20 children
7. Appreciation to local wisdom and appreciation by having traditional ceremony
Activities :
1. Forest conservation
2. Sanitation management
3. Planting hostplant and foodplant for butterflies and birds
4. Applying pro-biotic for animal fodder
5. Optimizing the function of community reading center as a green club as the media for environmental education for children.
6. Supporting community activities that have local wisdom

EXPECTED OUTPUT
1. The ecotourism in Jatimulyo Village is more structured
2. Behavior change in community to conserve their nature and environment
3. Existing efforts to protect the rainwater catchment and reservoir
4. Existing local communities with concern to the environment
