Expansion of established plantation and creation of environmentally sustainable recreation zone in Kurshab aiyl okmotu

This project is the continuation of the project realized in 2009 by the Jamaat Uzgen Ecosistema and called 'Reduction of land degradation and climate aridity though the rehabilitation tree and shrubbery vegetation which are in the Red List of Kyrgyzstan in the adyr zone of of Kurshab village'
The inititors of the project are aimed at reduction of biological loss in their region by creating the recreation zone in the area of 35,8 ha.
The realization of project contributed to ecological and economical improvements of the region and village in particular. Local population are already coming to the recreation zone where they enjoy the endemic trees and watch the wild life living within the park zone.

Project Characteristics and Results

As there are many fruit trees planted in the recreation zone and as there will be a big harvest in some year, thee is a plan to implement a bigger project which will aim at up scaling the project to the medium size and make eco products from fruits and vagatation,

Project sustainability

The Jamaat have planted the fruit trees which will give additional profit to the villagers in the near future, and this will encourage the local population for the conservation of this place and proper maintanance. The awareness raising materials are published in the local newspapers and information boards. With the aim of continuation of the project, the Jamaat had developed a project proposal on "Fruit processes" and submitted to the Ministry of Agriculture of Kyrgyz Republic.

Policy Influence

The article about the project was published three times in the regional newspaper of 'Ozgon Nuru' intended to have a positive influence to the broader public.

Emphasis on Sustainable Livelihoods

The issue of sustainability of rural life was in the core of the project, so the idea came to rehabilitate the land ecosystem in the territory of 35,8 ha and thus helping people to enjoy the nature.

Notable Community Participation

The project is implemented by the villagers of Kurshab and lead by the Jamaat Eco systema. People were actively involved into the realization, especially in planting of trees, in digging of channels ect.,

Capacity - Building Component

There is no special actions directed to the capacity building of local population, however, the project meetings and information materials could enhance the knowledge of population in the issues ecological conservation.

Replication of project activities

This is a continuation of previous project also realized by the Jamaat Eco systema, and in the frame of this project it is also proposed to replicate it to other regions and increase the beneficiaries.

Project Results

The overall goal of the project was reached and planned recreation zone was created by planting of trees in the area of 35,8 ha, plantation of additional trees including trees from the Red List of Kyrgyzstan contributed to degradation of land in the area of 105 ha, keeping the moisture in the area of forest belt.
All the endemic species of trees which are included in the Red List of Kyrgyzstan are planted:
1) Asian wild apple 5185 pieces,
2) Niedzwetzky apple 600 pieces,
3) Petunnikov almond 90 pieces,
4) Central Asian pears 890 pieces,
5) Cnorring wahthorn 55,pieces
- saplings of walnuts are bought and planted 3100 pieces,
- saplings of dog rose are bought and planted

Specific objectives that were set in the outset of project were achieved with excellence:
- 7 ha of the river was cleared instead of 4 ha planned in the project,
- The planted trees were protected by the fences established around the territory, all the necessary materials for this were bought,
- two information boards with project description and objectives and with call for land conservation were designed and established.
- an article about the project was published in the regional newspaper 'Ozgon Nuru'
- training for the members of Public Foundation "Ozgon Ecosystema' on 'Creation of recreational zone' was conducted during two days.
- additional 4100 m of irrigation channels were dug till the sapling area,
- cutting of dead trees and use the materials for fencing of other protected territories.
- small house for the recreation zone guard was constructed
- The nursery with conifer and fruit trees is organized and protected from animal trampling
