Promoting Alternative Cooking Fuel as Climate Change Mitigation Measure in Wanune Community, Tarka LGA Benue State
The project seeks to provide alternative source of renewable energy, energy efficient and environmental friendly cooking fuel. The objective is to greatly reduce environmental pollution and degradation by eradicating the use of firewood as cooking fuel and further enhance a cleaner and greener environment due to the conservation of the trees as well as improve income generation through the sale of rice husk briquette. Activities involve the purchase of the briquette machine, purchase of land and building of shelter for the machine, development of IEC materials, capacity building and training of the community members, production of ?Briquette? using rice husk which is abundant in Wanume being a rice producing community as an alternative source of cooking fuel. This is the pilot stage of the project.The production is handed over to the community members for sustainability and community ownership.
