PUBLIC AWARENESS RAISING ABOUT POPS IN BELARUS
As a first-priority in the National Plan on POPs defined to inform the public on issues of persistent organic pollutants.
This project will allow to provide public with information on the POPs issue and promotion of the Stockholm Convention on POPs in the Republic of Belarus through the active involvement of the work of environmental NGOs, scientific and educational institutions, local communities and other interested organizations. In the course of the project it is planned to eliminate existing gaps in information in the field of public education on POPs, in particular on the new POPs, additionally included in the list of the Stockholm convention.
The aim of this project is to increase public awareness on POPs issue in the implementation of the Stockholm Convention on Persistent Organic Pollutants.
To achieve this goal the following tasks need to be addressed:
1. Updating the website on the issue of persistent organic pollutants.
2. Seminars, conferences and round tables to the public on issues of persistent organic pollutants.
3. Preparing, printing and distribution of electronic media (CD-ROMs) of information on persistent organic pollutants.
4. To work in the media to educate the public on environmental issues on POPs.
