Realization of complex of activities on combat pasturelands desertification in Shien rural area
Project aim:
Demonstration of foothill pastures degradation decreasing possibilities by renewing sowing lands and restoration of traditional seasonal pasturing methods
Project tasks:
- Restoration of sowing lands by holy clover planting on 100 ha of degraded lands for restoration of eroded foothill zones and increasing winter forage for livestock
- Development of bee-keeping for increasing productivity of sowing lands and as alternative method of increasing people?s scale of living
- Revival of traditional technology of distant seasonal pasture usage
- Water supply for foothill pastures by cleaning the spring and organization of watering zone
- Teaching local community members rational pastures usage and projects results promoting
Project results:
- On 100ha of dry lands planted holy clover for making forage reserve and growing seeds for further increasing of feed production volume on own allotments
- Restored water supply on foothill pastures ? the spring cleaned, constructed watering zone 110 km away from Shien settlement
- Restored infrastructure on seasonal summer pastures 20-25 km away Bassu lot and on Bassu lot 110 km away Shien settlement
- Developed the scheme of distant pasturing and stock keepers trained on methods of rational usage of pastures
- To increase productivity of holy clover widen alternative to livestock keeping method of land use - bee-keeping
- Decreased on 15% load on near the settlements pastures, degradation processes localized, increased productivity and quality of feed, increased cast of animal produce and as a result ? income of local population
- Increased productivity and live weight gain of livestock on 10% and productivity of ?dairy? cows on 10% from feeding it with verdurous masses of holy clover that result increasing the living scale of local community
- Developed and issued recommendations on Kazakh and Russian languages on rational pastures usage of foothills steppe and semidesert zones of the state and creation of sowing lands
- Local community members understand clear dependence: pastures conditions ? quantity and quality of feed ? scale of local community living
