Promotion of local farm biodiversity focused in preservation of the endangered autochthonous goat breed of “Capore e Dragobise”
Albania has a high diversity of land races. This is made possible due to the geographic isolation that has prevented migration of ?exotic genes? into the local gene pools. This gene diversity is a great resource that today it is prized and protected especially in Europe.

Albania has 9 goat ecotypes that are associated to different mountainous areas in the country. These local breeds are the result of interplay over the centuries of the human selection pressure for the desired traits and the local environmental conditions. The resulting breeds represent an optimum between production and resistance to diseases.

This project will focus in the protection and promotion of the breed ?Capore e Dragobise? located in the northern part of Albania. Project is co-financed by HEIFER and will provide assistance in the breeding scheme as well as in the valorization of the product.
