Hengam Island Conservation VS. Tourism for Dolphins and Turtles
This project is designed to reduce the tourism pressure on the dolphins and turtles in the Hengam Island and to raise awareness of the locals about the negative impact of this pressure, significance and importance of the nature and the culture, and also to indentify other tourist attractions. The tourism activities is conducted by the locals based on the tourist demands therefore the locals and other stake holders need to be informed about its impact through workshops and session.
Project outputs and activities are:
?Raise awareness on natural and cultural significance of Hengam Island and the purpose of conservation to the locals through workshops.
?Develop a baseline report on the pressure on dolphins and turtles and a statistics on the boats providing services to tourists from Hengam Island to Shib Deraz Village.
?Empower locals who are interested in activities related to ecotourism.
?Reduce the pressure on the dolphins through introducing complementary tourist attractions and proposing balanced plans.
?Establish rules and regulation through public participation.
?Form a local community organization to monitor the tourism activities.
?Conduct workshops and sessions for locals and other stakeholders.
?Identify complementary tourist attractions and impleme
nting it in the eco-tours.
?Empower Hengam tourism authorities and tour guides through workshops.
?Develop ecotourism information packages for tourists.
