The proposed project is integrated within the GEF focal area of climate change; the project aims to intervene in the preservation of the an ecosystem that is daily suffering from marked deterioration due to the ways local communities use local resources for income generation, that are based on the cutting of trees for charcoal production, harvest of firewood and cutting of mangroves for building materials that are locally used and sold to neighboring communities; these practices can only be amended with good environmental education, towards engaging local communities, especially fishermen, to combine sustainable use of natural resources with income-generation activities; thus, the project will plant and rehabilitate mangroves and other surrounding plant communities for protection of coastal habitats and will also distribute hives in order to preserve the environment to reduce the pressure that natural resources are suffering, while ensure alternative livelihood support activities for local families.
