Project Characteristics and Results
Project sustainability
After project financing by SGP/GEF ends, the project sustainability will be ensured in the following way: 1. Environmental benefits: valuable endemic medicinal herbs and plants will be recovered on the Khovaling rayon?s territory; demonstration plots for the growing of valuable endemic medicinal herbs and plants will be established; 100 members of dekhkan farms will obtain skills and experience in the growing of medicinal herbs and plants and will get knowledge of technologies for the collection and drying of valuable pharmacologic raw materials; a basis for the expansion of the Project?s experience to other mountainous rayons of the region will be established. 3. Social benefits: material well-being of the members of dekhkan farms will increase owing to the growing of valuable endemic medicinal plants; new jobs will be created for the employable popula-tion of the project target communities; the local population will use valuable medicinal herbs and plants to treat various ailments; selling of the herbs and plants and biodiversity conservation will serve as an economic incentive to continue the initiative in both Khovaling rayon and other rayons in the east of Khatlon.
