In the result of the project implementation the following outcomes will be achieved:
- Biodiversity of rare and endangered endemic plants, such as wild apple (Malus siversii), Pyrus regeli, Pyrus tadshikistanica, walnut (Juglans regia), Vavilov almond (Amygdalus vavilovii), hawthorn (Crataegus pontica, C. darvasica), etc., as well as wild plants, such as onion species (Allium stipitatum, A. giganteum, A. elatum, A. karataviense, A. rosenbachianum), jeera (Bunium persicum), Ferula violace?, rhubarb (Rheum maximiwoschi), etc., is conserved;
- 20 demonstration plots are established to familiarize the population with methods of nursery establishment;
- 4 seed plots are established to receive seeds of rare and endangered plants for their further growing by the population;
- Area under rare and endangered plant species is increased by over 1 ha;
- Living conditions of 24 families are improved;
- Learning aids, educational film, a set of lectures and practical sessions will be used during the workshops as a mechanism to promote intensive technologies for the growing of rare and endangered plants and increase knowledge of new practices of the rational use of natural resources. These will be separate benefits of the Project;
- Levels of the environmental education within and around the PAs are increased;
- Information on project outcomes is disseminated among 500 state institutions, public organizations, farmers, schoolchildren, and local population.

The Project will primarily involve local farmers, dekhkan farms, Leskhoz and PA staff, and residents of this region; they will perform all the works on the establishment of nurseries for the growing of unique native wild relatives of plants. This is a highly time- and labour-consuming work, and no planned activities can be implemented without full-scale involvement of the local population. Furthermore, works to be done in the nurseries are primarily manual, and the local population will perform all agro technical caring for seedlings, including:
? Allocation of land plots for the nurseries.
? Clearing and tillage of the land plots.
? Fencing of nurseries and gardens (i.e. arrangement of metallic supports and wire fences).
? Collection of seeds of unique native wild relatives of plants and their sowing.
? Caring for seedlings during the vegetation period.
? Protection of the nurseries and gardens from animals and trespassers.
Knowledge Management:
It is planned to regularly provide information on project activities through Mass Media. Journalists will be invited to workshops and presentations, which would allow preparing information blocks.
During the workshops, apart from eco-educational information, the population will be familiarized with the Project?s primary objectives and tasks.
There will be conducted 10 workshops. There will be two meetings of specialists, agronomists, botanists, environment protection staff, PA staff, farmers and population in the project areas.
There will be two presentations, i.e. in the beginning and in the end of the Project. It is planned to involve zapovedniks and zakazinks? staff, representatives of state organizations (of Muminabad and Shurobad rayons), farmers, schoolchildren, and population within and around the PAs. The first presentation will highlight the Project?s objectives, tasks, implementation time-frames and stages. The second, final, presentation involving all the project participants and organizations of direct relevance to the Project will present project outcomes and achievements and discuss further development of PAs, taking account of specialists and donors? opinion.

The Project will undertake the following activities on information dissemination:
? Published learning aids among PA staff, jamoats, farmers, population within and around the PAs, higher educational institutions, etc. will be disseminated.
? 4 articles (on conservation and recovery of rare and endangered plants, rational use of medicinal and food plants) will be published in the republican periodic publications and Navruzgoh magazine.
? The planned number of copies, i.e. 2,000 copies, will be disseminated free of charge among potential farmers, population within and around the PAs and local administrations in all oblasts of the republic.
? Information will be widely disseminated through the local, oblast and republican broadcasting.
? In the end of the Project a presentation will be held; scientists, staff of the public organization, environment protection staff, PA and Leskhoz staff will be invited.
Project Performance Indicators:
? Community-protected areas under rare and endangered species of plants that will benefit from the Project are increased by 2 ha;
? State protected areas that will benefit from the Project: 2 ha;
? Particularly important ecosystems with improved conservation status: 10 ha;
? Production landscapes where new methods of sustainable resources use will be applied, ha;
? Total cost of biodiversity products: over USD 5,000.
? Lands where practices of better land use and climate change resilience are applied, ha: 2 ha;
? Application of better land use and climate change resilience practices prevented 0.5 ton of CO2 emissions;
? 2 ha of degraded lands are recovered;
? 3 communities that demonstrated methods of sustainable land and forest management;
? 3 participating members of the communities;
? Period of food shortage is reduced by 20 days;
? Amount of works with schools is increased by 20 academic days (increase in number of academic days);
? Purchasing power is increased through reduced expenditures and increased income (USD 100 per 1 household involved in the UNDP-SGP GEF projects).
