Project Characteristics and Results
Project sustainability
Farmers and local population?s understanding of benefits from the growing of rare and endangered plants will contribute to better understanding of the biodiversity values and solution of many environmental and economic problems, which, at this stage, is one of the crucial tasks of both the oblast and the country. Establishment of the new 20 micro nurseries will improve the environmental situation in the mountainous areas, and the local population will grow useful food plants without causing huge damage to the nature.
The environmental awareness-raising workshops to be conducted for schoolchildren, farmers, PA staff and local population will raise environmental consciousness among the local population.
After the successful project implementation the local population and farmers will obtain skills on the establishment of nurseries, growing seedlings there and selling the products, which will improve their living conditions.
We hope that the flora will be conserved because the population is interested in receiving benefits from valuable food species of plants. Particularly, these are long-term, lasting for many decades, benefits from the growing of plants and receiving of visitors who will come to the demonstration plots.
Establishment of the micro nurseries will significantly increase Project?s social sustainability and contribute to conservation of unique wild relatives of the PAs? plants. 24 families will have better living conditions.
Implementation of this Project will contribute to the improved relations between the state and public organizations active in the field of environmental and PA protection and local communities (jamoats). Cooperation and exchange of new information will also be continued after the Project.
