The Conservation programs Kaligenjong watershed and utilization of alternative energy sources to improve the farmers in Doko District, Sumberurip, Blitar
GOAL
In 2014, Kaligenjong watershed is conserved to support welfare improvement of Pawartaku (Society of Kulonbambang Farmers) community member through the utilization of micro-hydro as energy source and sustainable agricultural practice
OBJECTIVES
Objective 1 : Upstream area of Kaligenjong River is conserved thus ensuring the cycle of ground water and protecting from flooding
Indicators :
1. Ten hectares in the upstream area of Genjong River is planted by conservation plants
2. Secondary channel is improved
Activities : 1. The reforestation of upstream area of Kaligenjong River. Both with plants to avoid erosion and bamboo, this activity is carried out in collaborative way by Pawartaku farmers group.
2. The hardening of secondary side channels for 800 meters long, the hardening is carried out to reduce water channel destruction because of erosion thus water debit can be constant.
Objective 2 : Utilization of Kaligenjong River as a source of micro-hydro power
Indicators :
1. Microhydro installation with a capacity of 20 KW is established
2. Electricity management group is formed
3. Fifty houses of Pawartaku member in Kulonbambang sub-village, Tlogosari neighborhood, Sumberurip village is electrified.
Activities :
1. Manufacture of power generation, namely the construction of micro hydro power plant, construction of power house, turbine and intake weir. This work will be assisted by Comsud Paron / YLHS Mojokerto.
2. House installation; it is the installation of electricity from the power house to the user, the need of cable will be provided by each user.
Objective 3 : Increased awareness and knowledge of community members from Sumberurip Farmer groups and their families about sustainable land management
Indicators :
1. Existing meetings and training in training hall
2. Existing exchange of knowledge with other GEF partners
Activities :
1. Cooperative training, related to the concepts and management.
2. Technical Training on Microhydro Management, the training will bring experienced facilitators and resource persons on the management of micro-hydro electricity.
3. Meeting of GEF partners, this activity will be coordinated together with the National Secretariat of GEF / SGP
Objective 4 : Existing management institution of joint-business on electricity, essential oils and processed foods business.
Indicators :
1. The establishment of farmer cooperatives with at least 50 member
2. Existing cooperative activities of the business management on providing electricity and refining essential oils
3. Existing processed foods business
4. Existing good cooperative management
Activities : 1. Forming a cooperative to manage electricity. This cooperative later on will be managed by the youth from farmer groups members. In order to strengthen their expertise in micro-hydro management, cross visit to Seloliman will be attempted.
2. Constructing a refinery for essential oils, because of the availability of raw materials, -- clove?s leaves --, thus a refinery will be attempted to be constructed. Refining technology will be using local expertise.
EXPECTED RESULTS
1. The upstream of Kaligenjong River is green
2. Electricity need of Pawartaku community in Sumberurip Village is fulfilled
3. Knowledge of Pawartaku members and their family is improved
4. Existing of sustainable cooperative
5. Existing of Collective Business on essential oil refinery and processed foods to generate community income.
Participants and/or Project Beneficiaries
Direct : 200 households; 95 males and 105 females, they are members of Pawartaku farmers? group in Kulonbambang Sub-village, in the neighborhood of Tlogosari, Bambang and Kampung anyar, Sumberurip Village.
Indirect : 2000 people. They are people of Sumberurip village in general and farmers? community along the riverflow of Kaligenjong
