A total of 450 harvesters from the five conservancies/community forests were trained in sustainable Devil?s Claw harvesting methods and registered as harvesters during the course of the project.

By the end of the project, there were 210 active harvesters amongst the communities, compared to 176 prior to its commencement.

A substantially increased, fixed purchase price of N$27/kg (compared to maximum purchase prices of N$20/kg and N$18/kg in 2013 and 2012 respectively) was successfully negotiated with the buyer during the course of the project.

Substantially increased management fee rates were also successfully negotiated, from N$4/kg for all communities in 2012, to N$5.50/kg for Katope Community Forest and Daniel Sitentu Mpasi Emerging Conservancy and N$5/kg for Muduva Nyangana Conservancy and Community Forest in 2014.

A total of 14,077kg of Devil?s Claw was harvested in 2014, compared to a total of 11,403kg in 2013, and 9,222kg in 2012.

The increased yield resulted in N$380,079 as direct income to the harvesters ? a substantial increase from 2013, when the total income generated was N$228,060, and from 2012, when the total income generated was just N$165,996.

The increased sales represented an average increase in income per harvester from N$943 in 2012 to N$1,810 in 2014.

An additional N$67,108 was paid as management fees to the management committees to assist in ensuring project continuity, an increase from 2013, when the total management fees paid were N$39,000, and from 2012, when the total management fee paid was N$30,000.
