Nyachityu Integrated Water Harvesting for Biodiversity Protection
The Nyachityu water haversting project is located west of Marange Communal Lands.The project was motivated by the need to secure a water source which could then be used for domestic purposes,livestock and gardening.

The project was started with the objectives of harvesting and storing water, improving food security, fostering environmental awareness and conservation in the area and promoting income generation.
The activities involved were;
-construction of a weir
- gully reclamation
-conservation training
-erection of live fencing.

The community members ,the Manicaland Development Association and the AGRITEX are the participants in this project.The outputs from the project are
-a completed dam wall
-a fenced catchment area of the dam with planted kituyu grass around it.
-trained participants
-establishment of a consolidated garden.
-improved income generation and improved food security
-increased awareness and practical implementation of water conservation practises

The restoration of the environment has in turn benefitted the community who now have fish ponds,and a vlei area which is being carefully used for food production. The project is also generated employment among youths who moulded bricks for the project.

Project Characteristics and Results
Gender Focus
Both men and women have been in control of their development and have been working totwards a common goal of sustainable development. The project has a larger proportion of females and their burden of sourcing food for the family has been greatly reduced.

Manicaland Development Association has worked closely with the community and helped to mobilise resources from GEFSGP, Forestry Commission and Department of Natural Resources
