CONSERVATION OF NKWALOBO SPRING FOR SUSTAINABLE IRRIGATION FARMING BY ENHANCING EFFICIENT UTILIZATION OF WATER TO MINIMIZE WATER WASTAGE AND CUNFLICTS AMONG COMMINUTY MEMBERS
CONTEXT
This project intends to solve the problem of shortage of water for irrigational on Foo village. Water reservoir along this canal has been destroyed by rains and thus reduces water which reaches farms. Shortage of water has resulted in food poverty in some parts of Hai district. This project also intends to conserve water sources and plant trees.
PROJECT PRIMARY OBJECTIVE:
? To enhance efficient utilization of water to minimize water wastage and conflicts among Community
? To conserve water catchment
? To mobilize the community to initiate income generating activities
PROJECT ACTIVITIES:
? Rehabilitation of the furrow and reservoir
? Rehabilitation of weakened structure
? Rehabilitation of the furrow
? Construction of the gate and distribution structures
? Rehabilitation of intake
? Rehabilitation of the reservoir/Dam
Community skills to maintain and operate irrigation system
? Conduct training on efficient irrigation
? Conduct operation and maintenance
Conservation of water catchment source
? Planting of trees

? Water volume will increase
? Increase food and cash crop
? Community can plant two times a year
? People livelihood will be improved
PROJECT EVALUATION INDICATORS:
? Farmers in 3 villages get enough water
? 800m canal will be lined and rehabilitated
? culverts installed on the crossings
? 30 people trained on efficient irrigation
? village members trained on operation and maintenance
