Reaching the Unreached: Promotion of NTFPs/MAPs for Biodiversity Conservation and Livelihood Enhancement Project
The vegetation of the project area is diverse. Different types of forests and grassland found here. It comprises pure stands of Acacia catechu, Dalbergia sisso forests. Mixed deciduous forests are also important components of the lowlands in the community forest. The main tree species are Shorea robusta, Trewia nudiflora, Syzygium cumini, Bombax ceiba, Mallotus philippensis and Toona ciliate etc. Most of the area is occupied by different stages of Shorea robusta. In many places this species forms pure stands while in others, it is associated with Lagerstromia parviflora, Emblica officinalis, Terminalia bellirica and Terminalia chebula, Adina cordifolia, Terminalia alata Cassia fistula, Callicarpa macrophylla and Woodfordia fruticosa. The characteristic feature of the community forest is the presence of large number of climbers like Acacia pinnata, Cuscuta reflexa, Bauhinia vahlii etc.
Tiger, Wild Boar, Nil Gai, Deer, Asian black bear/bhalu (Selenarcto thibetanus), barking deer/ratuwa (Muntiacus muntjak), leopard/chituwa (Panthera pardus), fox/phyauro (Vulpus vulpus), jackal/syal (Canis aerus), monkey (Macaca mulata) are major wild animal. Pheasants/kalig and wild cock are common birds found here while the demoiselle Crane (Anthropoides virgo) is important migratory birds. Because of availability of grass land, wetland and riverine as Kothi River passes though the project VDC
