Mitigation of climate change through installation of Newly Modified Matribhumi Improved Cooking Stove
Mitigation of climate change through installation of Newly Modified Matribhumi Improved Cooking Stove
NEWI has promoted Matribhumi improved cook stove in Chaimale VDC of Kathmandu. The project is successful in installing 350 such stoves and able to save considerable amount of firewood. But the only problem was the stove needs electricity to run the fan that supply steady oxygen in the fire chamber. But due to electricity black out and load shedding, the stove could not be used satisfactorily.

A new air-supply disc has been developed having projected holes which can suck the air of its own. Thus the project aims to install 1,000 Matribhumi improved cook stove (MICS) with the new air-supply disc in the proposed VDC of Okharpauwa (Nuwakot) and Lele (Lalitpur). Likewise, the project will also use modified fibre dye through which the stove can be constructed within few hours. In other conventional improved cook stove, it may take weeks to construct it. First, the mud bricks need to be developed, sun dried for a day or two during sunny day and during rainy day it will take longer, then only the construction of stove starts. The project will also develop a pool of MICS promoters and mobilize/ prepare local community for the installation. Once the installation is completed, the project will also measure its efficiency and people?s willingness to use the stove. The project result will be disseminated widely to promote the MICS throughout the country.
