Decrease of synthetic chemicals use in agriculture through introduction of organic practices in agriculture on territory of Kostanay oblast
Project aim:
Decrease of synthetic chemicals use in agriculture as fertilizers and pesticides, restoration of soil productivity, increasing agrobiodiversity through introduction in production of agriculture produce effective, safe, environmentally and economically beneficial organic practices and preparations on the territory of Kostanay area.
Project tasks:
- Provide technical support for introduction of organic fertilizers use practices by farms as alternative to POP on the territory of 6 farm containing about 1150 ha in Kostani area
- Increase public awareness on organic production, including organic fertilizers and ways of its producing by organization of publications in mass media and Internet and by consulting
Project results:
- On the territory of 6 farms containing about 1150 ha in Kostanai area decreased use of POPs (more than 200 tones) and implemented technologies of organic production
- 6 farms use organic fertilizers instead of POPs and started the process of organic certification in accordance to international standards
- Increased public awareness among about 10 000 people on possible alternative to POPs in agriculture
- More than 20 farms got consultation on organic production

Promoting Public Awareness of Global Environment
Association of organic farming is a member of Organic Network Central Asia (OrGaNeCa) and a member of export partnership of organic products. Via this organizations as well as via Organic Center of Kazakhstan public informed on project progress and organic sector on regular base. This organizations help in disseminating news, articles, photo and video materials, and attract people to project activities.
Emphasis on Sustainable Livelihoods
Farmers, decided to re-orientate and go organic got consulting and informational support from leading experts of industry, as well as support with organic fertilizers for the territory of 1150 ha. They also gained knowledge on organic farming so that they can keep going organic after the project finished. One of the most important things is that farmers are helped with organic certification both for home sales and for export.
