Project Characteristics and Results
Policy Impact
Ma?an continues to coordinate with local government officials concerning its plans, and further meetings with national stakeholders in ministries are planned when the farm is further developed. Ma?an is utilizing the GEF SGP grant to create and demonstrate the true viability of sustainable agriculture and environmentally- conscious agricultural techniques in the oPt.
Emphasis on Sustainable Livelihoods
The farm will be completely self-sustaining and has already begun to produce strawberries that are being sold to fund other activities on the farm. Once aquaponics system is full functioning , income from the sale of fish will provide another source of funds to sustain the farm. Ultimately, by creating small income-generating projects through the produce and models used throughout the site, Ma?an will be able to fund its on-site training and other activities at the farm beyond the completion of the project
