This is a project on Conservation and sustainable use of plant diversity, and wild resources of Palestinian indigenous crops.
The site of this project is the educational Gardens in Kour village in Tulkarm. This project will contribute to conservation, restoration and sustainable use of threatened indigenous plants including wild resources of cultivated crops, including: Acer obtusifolium, Arbutus andrachne, Celtis australis, Ceratonia siliqua, Cercis siliquastrum, Coridothymus capitatus, Elaeagnus angustifolia, Ficus carica, Fraxinus syriaca, Laurus nobilis, Myrtus communis, Peganum harmala, Pistacia palaestina, Populus nigra, Pyrus syriaca, Quercus caliprinos, Retama raetam, Rhamnus alaternus, Rhus coriaria, Ricinus communis, Rosmarinus officinalis, Ruscus aculeatus, Ruta chalepensis, Salvia fruticosa, Styrax officinalis, Urginea maritime, Ziziphus spina-christi.
This project will also focus on developing the capacity of targeted groups with regard to conserving and growing wild plants as well as with regard to marketing techniques of the resulting products at the local market. The project will provide a recreational site for the local communities by making use of the plants? multiple benefits, including their effect on environmental health and their aesthetic values. It will also disseminate information on plant biodiversity through conducting workshops and seminars. A booklet aiming at raising the community?s understanding of the value and importance of plant species in maintaining the natural and human balance will be published.
