Mikaro bee-keeping and three nursery for environment conservation and employment project.
Mikaro Bee and tree nursery is a community based self help group located in North Kinangop location of Nyandarua district. The group was formed with main purpose of conserving the environment around Aberdares forest. Group activities include establishment of tree nursery, apiculture and tree planting. The main project objective is to improve community livelihoods through production and marketing of honey and cut flower products, tree seedlings, employment creation and sustainable land management. The project will specifically focus on four primary objectives in order to achieve the main objective; expand the apiculture activities in the targeted areas as mechanism for sustainable land management, expand tree seedling production to restore degraded land and protect riparian areas, promote sustainable agricultural technologies and improve community livelihoods through production and marketing of organically grown cut flowers.

Gender Focus
Project planning and implementation will take into consideration gender balance especially youths and women participation. The physically challenged will also play in role during implementation. Langstroth technology is women friendly and therefore strengthening project sustainability. Women will play a role in activities that are not labor intensive such as assembling of beehives and management of apiaries. In tree seedling expansion, women will play a key role in tree nursery establishment and management including light work such as potting, watering, pricking out, pruning and selling. Project administration and management will be equally shared across gender.
