When a degraded and unvalued or under-valued resource is put to productive use and is able to generate substantial wealth and employment opportunities for the resource owners, there is much stronger incentive to safeguard and protect that resource.This project will work with two villages in the Sigatoka Valley ? Fiji?s major agricultural production area. With about 100 households, the two villages of Koroinasau and Nadrala collectively own 3,000 hectares of land predominantly comprising of cleared grasslands and diminishing areas of native forest. The project aims to demonstrate, with these two villages, methods in which communities such as theirs can better manage and use their land to reverse the soil and land degradation and at the same time generate a sustainable source of income.
