Over the years, Achada Mentirosa, like of rural communities in Fogo Island, has experienced continued land degradation problems. The problems specifically, exacerbate loss of agricultural land (loss of topsoil), loss of soil nutrients, and organic material. These issues have impacted negatively the local community, which livelihoods depends on agriculture. As a response to this, the local association projects the construction of anti-erosion mechanical barriers, as well as implementation biological measures.
