In Cape Verde, more specifically on the island of Santo Antão in the town of Lagoa, Companhia, and Matinho, there are serious deficiencies related to water distribution. The population in these localities needs to move large distances, i.e more than 5 km to obtain and transport water for domestic use and for livestock. Such survival conditions reflect negatively on the quality of life of communities and even school attendance of children, often contributing to their families in obtaining and transporting water.
The Associação Recreativa Mãos Unidad Companhia, in partnership with Projecto de Reforço das Capacidades de Adaptação e Resiliência às Mudanças Climáticas no Sector dos Recursos Hídricos em Cabo Verde ? INGRH, assessed the situation and to responded by constructing a water tank of 100 m3 and to pump water to all three communities located more than 5 Km away.
