Gumira Agroforestry Project
The project is in Chigumira village of ward 22 in Chipinge District.The site of the project is 220km from Mutare and only 400m from the Save river.The broad goals are to help curb extensive siltaton of the save micro catchment and to enhance the protection of intwernational waters.The other goal is to promote biodiversity through the introduction of self sustainable activities like friut farming, market gardening, sugarcane plantation and the vertiva grass nurseries.

Objectives
-make the project a major focal point from which the community can learn ways of protecting and managing resources through growing of vertiva grass and proper ways of market gardening and fruit farming
-to generate some income for funding of school activities and projects
-impart some practical knowledge and skills to pupils and community members of conservation measures, income generating projects.
-to provide friuts for under norished children in the community
-create some form of employment to the members of the project group who shall implement project activities.

Project participants
-All families with children and the pupils attending Gumira primary school are participants to this project.

anticipated results
-equipment of community members with knowledge and skills of combating environmental degradation.
-it is also expected to bring in some substantial gains
-improvement in the nutritional status of the children around the project

Notable Community Participation
Community members are working hand in hand with the school pupils and teachers to implement the project. The school committee together with the community came up with the idea of implementing this project after realising the environmental degradation of Save Catchment Area. Each household contributed in terms of labour and cash towards planned activities.
