The project aims to protect environmental deterioration through strengthening local CBOs engagement on environmental protection activities, improving the livelihood of the community and undertaking various conservation activities and adversely protect the silt being developed in Gilgel Gibe III Dam through reducing the natural resource degradation using area closure and constructing biological and physical conservation structures, improving livelihood of the community living in the selected water shade areas through organizing and supporting groups on alternative and environmental friendly IGAs to reduce burden on environmental degradation, and sustaining environmental conservation activities by strengthening local CBOs and making them engaged on conserving their environment by themselves.
