Community afforestation and environmental management project
This project aims to enhance the skills of communities in the Central River Region to address and take steps to reverse trends in the decline of their environment. The project specifically seeks to combat the problem of deforestation and forest resources degradation by establishing woodlots and orchards and undertaking tree planting in the project communities.

Project Characteristics and Results
Capacity - Building Component
A sensitization workshop on deforestation effects was carried out in the five beneficiary communities and attended by 50 people from the communities. A 2 day training on environmental management was also held and was attended by 20 people from the beneficiary communities.
Project sustainability
Although the funding for the project is only for 12 months, it is expected to continue well beyond that period. The fruit tree orchards and woodlots will be taken care at the end of GEF funding as the impacts will be realised in the medium and long term.
