Capacity - Building Component
As lack of awareness on the importance of mangroves was one reason for their degradation. Training and sharing of best practices were used to strengthen capacity. 27 community members travelled to the neighboring region of Cassamance to exchange experiences on mangrove conservation. 40 oyster harvesters received training on improved techniques of sustainable oyster harvesting and aquaculture. 400 community members were trained on general proper forest management.
Gender Focus
Men and women both contribute to mangrove degradation by exploiting it for timber and through oyster harvesting respectively. Thus both genders for targeted during consultation and sensitization events to get their input. Both received relevant training on sustainable use of the mangrove forest.
