Introduction of the local management system on the lake connected to transboundary river Syrdarya for biodiversity conservation
Project aim:
Sustainable use of Syr-Darya transboundary river?s and the delta lakes? biological resources; fish fauna and avifauna biodiversity conservation by introduction of the sustainable management scheme on local level
Project tasks:
- Introduction of the biological resources sustainable management scheme on local level and organization of the nature-conservative measures
- Rising environmental awareness, promotion and attracting attention of local governmental structures, nature conservation structures, business structures and local community of the region to the problem of regional fish fauna and avifauna biodiversity conservation
Project results:
- Stocking the Turankol Lake with fish fry (grass carp, silver carp in the number of 30000 fries) allowed to increase diversity of the fish fauna and improve lake condition (S 50 ha).
- Suppression of violations (in the spawning period - daily), using water transport (boat) and cleaning the ducts from the fishing nets provided good conditions for the spawning, migration in the life cycle of most aquatic organisms, including endangered species
- As a result of nature-conservative measures created conditions for nesting, meals and rest during the transmigration of different birds? populations, including rare species of birds
- Organization of sport fishing (in the first year - 5-6 places) as an alternative to poaching
- Involvement local community members as volunteers (10-15 members)
- An issue of propaganda booklet in Kazakh and Russian languages - 500 units
- Environmental education lessons for pupils (3 schools), the contest for best picture, issue of calendars and posters on contest?s results
- Conducted 3 workshops in villages located directly in the project area
- Creating 3 elders? councils in villages located directly in the project area
- Published two articles in local newspapers
Project were completed with fund residue of 800 USD

Promoting Public Awareness of Global Environment
All project activities are put on video and photo, the best materials distributed through social networks, mass media and local television. Project activities are the object of discussions between local community, NGOs, project partners, all project activities were discussed on meetings, seminars and trainings. Project informational materials disseminated among local community and interested parties.

Gender equality is a part of project policy and all parties participate in project activities on equal base and benefit from project results.
