Rice irrigation technology without water release on Akdala territory of Almaty oblast
Project aim:
Introduction of water saving and erosion-preventive technology of rice irrigation, that provide decreasing water for irrigation consumption on 20-25% and increasing rice yield on 12-18%

Project tasks:
- Select project site and carry out preparatory works in Akdala rice-growing tract
- Work out rice irrigation technology without water release
- Hold informational and educational campaign and promote project

Project results:
- On 100 ha introduced rice irrigation technology without water release
- Achieved water saving when growing rice up to 4-6 thousands m3/ha (20-25%)
- Rice yield increased on 12-15%
- Developed one methodology on rice irrigation technology without water release
- On project results issued one brochure (full color, A5 format, 200 items on Kazakh and 200 items on Russian languages)
- Held: 1 demonstrational seminar, 2 trainings, 4 field days with the aim to acquaint local community with new technology and project results
- Issued 3 articles in newspapers, 3 presentations on local, regional and national level
- New technology decreased water loss from rice grounds
- Decreased load on drain dumping system, improved soil-reclamation conditions of irrigated lands
- Improved farming culture, saving rate is 237 000 tenge (~1600$) per ha
- 60 families, including 27 woman and 40 children benefited from the project

All project activities on introducing rice irrigation technology without water release on irrigated areas of Akdalinsk track (Almaty region) carried out with the participation of rice farmers, rice systems irrigators of Balkhash region that are a part of local community.
