Promotion of biogass energy for better life in low income areas, Blantyre district
Soche Mountain was declared a natural forest reserve in early 30s and was made a conservation area as it a source of three importnant rivers of Mwaphazi,Chimwankhunda and Namame.Sourring villages with close to 10,000 people count on the rivers for drinking and irrigation needs.
There has been rampant deforestation of the vegetation on the hill and sorrounding forest by rogues.Trees have been cut illegally for firewood, charcoal making and supplying the brick making industry.
Objectives:
1.To develop a training and demostration centre for renewable energy alternatives and sustainable livelihood.
2.To assist groups to improve their livelihoods through the sale of biogass energy products and natural resource investment.
Expected Outcomes:
1.Community using biogass kitchens and significantly reduce using firewood and charcoal.
2.Cheaper biogas energy sold to communities hence saving finances
3.Community use of biogas for heating will contribute to reduce GHG emissions.
