Urine for wealth: Producing organic fertilizers from human waste as a viable enterprise for the urban poor, Lilongwe City Council
Malawi is an agro-based economy with crops as amajor farm enterprise. All along the country has depended on imported chemical fertilizers. In the work of economic crisis, the acqusition of chemical fertlizers from outside is proving unsustainable that demends the much-needed foreign currency.Worse still the chemical fertilizers have impacted negatively on the environment by triggering soil acidity killing the soil microbes and rendering the soils infrtile for crop production. Therefore the organic fertilizers are providing a cheap and sustainable alternative to chemical fertilizers for crop production.

Objectives:
1.To improve management of wastes in public markets
2.To provide new waste collection and handling facilities within the public market.
3.To icrease incomes for the urban poor through market linkages for waste-based products.
4.To demonstrate the application and market the organic fertilizers.
