TREE PLANTING ACTIVITIES IN SEVEN VILLAGES NAMELY ORIA, MAWALA, KISANGASANGENI, NGASINI, MWANGARIA, KWA CHAKINDO AND SOKO, KAHE WARD, MOSHI DISTRICT, KILIMANJARO REGION;
CONTEXT:
The Youth Group for Environmental conservation is a group of youth mainly from Masai tribe and they are located in Kahe ward where the main activity is cattle keeping. In many years tree planting in this area has been difficulty due to destruction by livestock. This time a group from the same area and from the same livestock families is requesting for funds to plant trees. This give the chance to think that the trees will survive and the tree planting and protection will become a behavior among this community.
PROJECT PRIMARY OBJECTIVES:
To establish tree nursery and to plant trees in seven villagers
PROJECT SECONDARY OBJECTIVES:
? To impart knowledge to young generation on tree planting and establishment of tree nursery.
? To create source of income for the group members
? To reduce tree cutting for fuel wood and charcoal
PROJECT OUTPUTS:
Ten thousand tree seedlings of different species will be grown around in the nursery and will be planted in seven villages mentioned above
PROJECT ACTIVITIES:
Planting 10,000 tree seedlings in seven villagers
PROJECT BENEFITS:
? Increase tree planting activities to youth of Oria village
? Plant trees in Seven Villagers in Kahe area which is very dry
? Increase income of the group members
? Ten thousand tree seedlings will be planted in different areas of Oria, Mawala, Kisangasangeni, Ngasini, Mwangaria, Kwa Chakindo and Soko.
FOLLOW UP MECHANISM:
The project will be implemented by the members of Youth environmental conservation and all the implementation reports will be presented to COMPACT office and to the village leaders where the trees will be planted.

Promoting Public Awareness of Global Environment
For long Maasai have not participate in environment conservation through tree planting, this project will create awareness to other Maasai community on the need to participate in tree planting as an important component of protection of pastoral environment and livelihood.
Significant Participation of Indigenous Peoples
Masai are among indigenous people of Tanzania, their participation in this project increases their roles and understanding of different aspects in sustainable development.
