Decrease of man-induced load on biodiversity of deltaic lakes via introduction of the alternative lake fish-farming method on the example of lake Tuschi
Project aim:
Demonstration the biodiversity conserving ways of deltaic lakes via introduction of alternative lake fish-farming method on the example of lake Tuschi.
Project tasks:
- Conservation of biodiversity of lake Tuschi by regulation load on lake Ecosystem by organization of fish farm, including activities on improving birds environment
- Increasing potential of local community on introduction sustainable fish farming and biodiversity conserving by disseminating information and participation in fish resources of the lake management
- Decreasing poverty, gender equality and improving conditions of local population by training locals, especially woman on fish processing
Project results:
- Decreasing load on biodiversity of Tuschi lake due to the introduced principles of sustainable development
- Restoring structure of lake?s ichthyocenosis that allowed improving environment conditions of the lake, improving forage base for birds and advantageous to locals
- Organization of the fishery so that the catches were presented by all kinds of fish in proportion to their frequency of occurrence in the basin
- Improving bird?s habitat (creation of special rest zones)
- Decreasing number of entangling nets ? the main birds injury risk
- Locals educated on more environmental-friendly ways of fishing
- Increased environmental culture of local population that mastered methods of control and monitoring of lake?s environmental conditions, educated on environmental-friendly ways of fishing
- Improved social-economic position of local community, created additional job places in fish processing
- 182 households got access to fishing and fish processing
- Involved locals to lake resources management: prioritization and allocation of fishing volumes, the distribution of income and financial responsibilities, determination of responsibility for violations
