Managing Natural Resources and Developing Quality of Lives
Implementing NGO/CBO:Huay Bor Thong Community Forest Conservation Group (HBCG): Established in 1997 as a community conservation group seeking approaches to protect and conserve forest against unsustainable use of forest provisions and forest encroachment from both community members and outsiders.
Location of project: Huay Bor Thong Community forest of approximately 100 ha in the vicinity of Phu Pha Daeng and Nongrua National Forest Reserve around Nongbualamphu Province. Current threats on the forest are unsustainable use of forest provisions and forest encroachment to expand cultivated areas, especially for mono crops. Seven tree species of nutritious and medicinal value /landraces are primary target of conservation.
Target Population: 120 families from 3 villages who earn living through agricultural practices and depend ,to a certain extent, upon provisions of the forest. Per capita income is THB: 60,000.
Main Activities to be carried out:
1.Launching technical capacity building of targeted population through study tours and open forum
2. Launching demonstration of conservation activities through resources inventory, promoting alternative agriculture, establishing seed banks
3. Launching dissemination of project results
4. Launching participatory evaluation/knowledge management

Main Anticipated Results and indicators:
1.Approximately 160-ha community forest being managed under strict community regulation
2. Evinced increased quantities and species of native plants and animal in community forest
3. Cultivated areas of 60 families being replenished with more native species of nutritious and timbering value leading to food security
