Enhancing Capacity of Learning Centre for Effective Mainstreaming
Implementing NGO/CBO: Northern Organic Standard Association (NOSA): Founded in 1995 as a CBO, through multi-sector cooperation, NOSA is mandated to promote organic farming, in eight provinces in the northern region of Thailand, which contribute to conservation and protection of natural resources and the environment.
Location of project: Agricultural area situated in a plain between mountains and along the Jang River. The location is grid-connected readily supplied with other kinds of fossil-based energy such as canned gas and gasoline.
Target Population: 204 families of northern Thai in the location the majority of which depends upon agricultural practice and fossil fuel for livelihood activities . 125 families are project direct participants. The per capita income is THB: 80,000.
Main Activities to be carried out:
1.Launching capacity building through supporting training facilities
2. Launching demonstration of activities: solar heater and water pump, water hammer, micro-hydro power, biomass stoves, biogas
3. Launching dissemination of project results
4. Launching participatory evaluation / knowledge management
Anticipated Results and Indicators:
1. One learning facility being established and operational and continuously visited by communities in and outside project location
2. Increased capacity of project resources persons witnessed by ability to share experience with visitors
3. Reduction/avoidance of CO2 emission as follows:
- 4.48 tons/year from water hammer
- 4.1 tons/year from a 3-kW micro-hydro plant
- 2.1 tons/year from solar water pump
- 5.4 tons/year from biogas
4. Knowledge and experience of the project being shared and mainstreamed into wider public
