Results of activities:
1. Increased institutional and technical capacity of targeted population witnessed by ability to congregate into a community enterprise launching activities on promotion of renewable energy , and ability to integrate renewable energy technology into local curriculum and to apply the technology in daily activities
2. Completion and function of two units of solar dryers to the satisfaction of targeted population following 2 courses of participatory evaluation
3. Project location becoming a community leaning centre for solar drying

Emerging problems and issues:
Making project more visible among targeted population through capacity-building activities did not fully realized. To cope with this, additional coordination was made with the CEO of the community school and students whose guardians were project members to ensure full communication and updates.

Project experience and lessons learnt :
It was quite evident that project members had learnt a lot about renewable energy through direct hearing from resources persons and through study tours. Especially, once witnessing the workability with their own eyes, curious project members became more confident and fully participating and supporting activities of the group.

Project expense:
The project reported the expense of THB: 161,000 out of the first disbursement of THB: 409,697.86
II. Project Site Visit (September 6, 2013):
Findings and Observation:
At a premises of one project leader, which was also a learning centre for biomass energy production, in Baan (village) Nong Kwao, one of the four the targeted villages in Tambol Khangphlu, Nonthai District, the visiting team interacted with a group of project leaders from four villages who told and showed how the installed solar dryer of the project performed. Installation being completed about four weeks earlier, the dryer had been put into operation drying a certain amount of chillis and bananas, and according to these project leaders, the result was fairly satisfactory, saving their times, and minimizing sanitary problems of the dried products.

In term of management, there were two dryers of the same design and size, which project members of about 100 from four villages would bring their products for processing, one dryer per two villages. The membership fee for this was charged at THB: 120 per person. Service charge per dry for member was THB: 40 which would be for maintenance and cleaning. As for non-members, the charge was rated by shelf of heating ,i.e. THB: 20 per shelf (there were 8 shelves in a dryer). In case a non-member wished to use all the 8 shelves for his product, the service charge would be THB: 150/dry.

As the dryer was composted of electronic equipment, the project had planned to have the contractor trained a group of community members and also the technicians from the Tambol Administrative Organizations. Operation & maintenance manual was said to be compiled to ensure smooth operation and sustainability.

Despite of this initial success, the group, however, had two concerns. The first was the electronic equipment used in controlling ventilation fans and a supplementary electric heater & battery which received electricity from a solar panel. Under this trial run, the equipment sometimes did not function properly and required adjustment from the contractor. The second was health-related. The community was apprehensive about the possibility of dried products being stained by heavy metal which the selves were made of. The visiting team advised the project to modify according to the need of communities to ensure cost effective and replication. Notwithstanding, the visiting team agreed that the solar drying technology would work as planned.

Problems and Issues:
The project mentioned a technical error of the solar driven exhaust fan of the dryer. The supplier was notified to carry out repairing activities.
