Expanding Renewable Energy Network
Expanding Renewable Energy Network
Implementing NGO/CBO: Energy Conservation and Renewable Energy Group of Tambol Khangphlu (RETK): Founded in 2002 as a community environment group focusing on efficient charcoal burning kilns, then expanding to cover 10 surrounding villages in Nonthai District, as well as other districts and provinces. The network has been collaborating with the Regional Energy Office 6 to cover its operating area in the upper northeastern region.
Location of project: Agricultural, rather arid, area situated in the Korat Plateau. There is a creek running through the area. The location is grid-connected readily supplied with other kinds of fossil-based energy such as canned gas and gasoline. Banana in project location is fairly plentiful.
Target Population: 450 families from 4 villages in the location the majority of which depends upon agricultural practice ( 90 % paddy) and fossil fuel for livelihood activities . 20 families and one local school are project direct participants. The per capita income is THB: 30,000.
Main Activities to be carried out:
1.Launching capacity building through training
2. Launching demonstration of activities: solar dryers
3. Launching dissemination of project results
4. Launching participatory evaluation /knowledge management
Anticipated Results and Indicators:
1. Compilation of energy use in project location for planning and process
2. Increased capacity of target population as follows:
- ability to be resources person on solar energy
- ability to install 2 solar dryers and put into use
3. Established learning centres on solar energy, especially solar heat process
4. Avoidance of CO2 emission as follows:
- 6 tons/year by using solar dryers in food processing
