Recovering the Community-based Management to Control Natural Population of Fishes
Recovering the Community-based Management to Control Natural Population of Fishes
GOAL :
Protecting and Restoring populations of coral fish by constructing artificial coral reef made by the community and building awareness on the efforts of protecting coastal ecosystems, particularly coral reefs by the community.
OBJECTIVES
Objective 1
Constructing artificial reef by community
Indicators
1. The formation of artificial reef on marine protected areas in 50 sites. The restoring population of fishes such as grouper, snapper, yellow tail fish, Lencam fish/Lethrinus obsoletus, and other important economic fish on artificial reef in the period after 3-5 years. It is expected that there are ± 10-20 fish per species within 1 year, and increases to ± 40-60 fish per species within 2 years and ±> 100 fish per species within 3-5 years.
ACTIVITIES :
1. Training on the manufacture of artificial reef for the community.
2. Procurement of raw material and assembly of beam and circular mold.
3. Construction of artificial reef basic building (beam length is 8 x 25 pieces = 200 pieces and circular mold is 6 x 25 pieces = 150 pieces).
4. Assembling of artificial reef on the seabed by the community, guided by field facilitators.
5. Institutional strengthening of Supervisors Group through distribution meetings of daily monitoring schedules.
Objective 2
Public awareness activities
Indicators
1. The established community awareness in Majapahit Village on the importance of maintaining and restoring fish populations. The established awareness for people in neighboring villages especially the one who have access to Marine Protected Areas that have been formed.
Activities
1. Making Posters with a brief, catchy interesting message. A total of 100 pieces that will be displayed at strategic places so that it can be noticed easily by community.
2. Outreach activities and community awareness promotion is expected to be participated by at least 50% fishermen in each village.
EXPECTED OUTPUT
1. The construction of artificial reef and coral at Marine Protected Areas in Majapahit Sub district.
2. The restore of coral fish populations on communities? Marine Protected Areas
3. The established awareness in the community about the importance of restoring and sustaining fish populations.
