Community Capacity Building on environment conservation, Natural Resources Management and Good Governance
Problem Statement:
Bagamoyo district is threaten by environment degradation and pollution of the ocean. Factors that contribute to increased environment degradation include deforestation for wood fuel settlements, building materials; widespread fish camps, illegal fishing, sand extraction and salt mining. NGOs, FBOs and CBOs work with local communities to reverse the trend of degradation. However, their limited technical knowledge and skills on environment and natural resources management is a handicap to their efforts. Under this project, up to 18 NGOs that are focusing on environment management will be trained to increase their capacity on environment management with the view to enhancing their efficiency and effectiveness.
About the proponent:
BANGO-Net is an umbrella environment oriented NGO based in Bagamoyo district. Its key objective is to support member NGO, FBOs and CBOs increase capacity in environment conservation, natural resources management and environmental governance. It also supports members to strengthen their skills in proposal formulation and writing and fund raising techniques.
Project objective:
Supporting member NGOs, FBOs and CBOs increase their capacity in natural resource management and environmental governance.
Implementation Strategy:
? Baseline survey to determine training needs
? Conduct local level workshops focusing on the outcome of the baseline survey including issues of good governance
? Extend training beyond NGOs to the local communities on natural resource management and prevention of pollution to ocean waters
