Community Based Fish Farming at Jozani, Zanzibar
The Jozani Forest is part of the recent declared Jozani Forest National Park, Located 25 Kilometres southwest of Zanzibar town between the bays of Chwaka and Uzi. The Jozani Forest with an area of about 1,000 hectares is the last remnant of original, untouched forest on the island. The forest lies in ahsallow trough in a sossil coral bed between the mangrove filled bays of Chwaka and uzi. Seasonal flooding and a high water table, have given rise to a unique groundwater forest. with mangrove forests and salt marshes to the north of the National Park, the area is an extremely rich mosaic of Zanzibar's divers natural habitats, a haven for much wildlife, including rare endemic and endangered species.
The overall objective is to support community in fish farming sub-project as a viable livelihod option to promote economic growth and poverty reduction.
