Engaging in Multiple Strategies to Strenghten the Ecosystem Resilience and Increasing the Adaptive Capacity fo Campbell Community to Preserve Hillsides and Soil and Reduce Vulnerability to Landslides and Flooding
>The objective of the project is to build capacity, increase vegetative cover and control water to help prevent soil erosion.
>Campbell is a small community of approximately 500 people located in the South West of Dominica. The main livelihood of the villagers is farming.
>The community faces many risk with the main one being landslides, flooding and water borne diseases. It is keeping in mind these risks that we write seeking approval of proposal to decreased these risks.
The climate change observed thus far is more intense rainfall which causes the increase in landslides and decrease in the livelihood of the people.
If this project is approved it will mean an increase in unity in the community because we will all have to come together to work. The Young, middle age and elderly will have a part to play in the implementation of this project. The project will also help increased the livelihood of many because fewer landslides more land available for farming.
3/. BRIEF PROJECT DESCRIPTION
>The project is expected to make Campbell a safer place as the risk to impacts of climate change increase. Grass barriers (verti vert ) to bed to training in use of grass for local mats craft etc. Heavy rainfall which lead to flooding and landslides. The project will help villagers be more educated of the choices they make when cutting trees and doing farming. Educational sessions will be provided to help people understand the logic and the long term effects of the project.
The project is also expected to eliminate a few risk factors. More close monitoring to ensure adherence to laws will be implemented to safeguard people when building houses therefore avoiding a problem before one arises from the loss of property. More educational programmes will be held for villagers.
>Although the project will be beneficial there will be barriers to implementation. Drains may have to pass on people?s personal land therefore causing them to look for monetary benefits. There may also be conflicts when people think that benefits are not being shared equally. To overcome this barriers people will have to be brought together to discuss the best way forward with the project.
The project will reduce the risks from climate change in that the drains will now control majority of the water therefore causing less havoc. The planting of trees and increasing vegetative cover will lead to the decreased in the amount of landslides because most landslides are caused by loose soil. This happens especially when a lot of deforestation takes place, and trees are felled indiscriminately.

The proper controlled of the excess water and increase plant cover with shrubs and running plants high erosion and washing away of plants and animals. Agricultural crops like pumpkin, potatoes planted on slopes will serve as food and soil cover.
4/. NGO/CBO BACKGROUND:
The Campbell Village Council has been in existence since the late 1980?s. It comprises of eight members who work towards the development of community. They take up many projects such as road works, beautification by planting flowers and planning of group activities just to name a few. This Community project will be undertaken by the Campbell Community Resource Team. A resource team comprising a cross section of persons from the community will work to formulate the full proposal and implement the project.
