The implementation of this PG introduced the members of the NGO to a subject that they were not trained in and therefore they went through a very steep learning curve. They were also extremely dependent on many partners and stakeholders in the apiculture industry in Saint Lucia for information. During project implementation the grantee did the following:

(i) commenced the review of all local legislation relevant to the apiculture industry in Saint Lucia;
(ii) established contact with several bee farmers including the Mille Fleur Honey Producers Cooperative (largest honey cooperative in Saint Lucia);
(iii) identified the problems and challenges facing the apiculture industry in Saint Lucia;
(iv) visited many apiaries; and
(v) produced two 10 minute teasers as a tester for the audio-visual productions planned for the FG phase.

Economic Impact: Two consultants/facilitators were hired to assist with research (one man and one woman) and paid a total of XCD$1850 (US$685.00) with the lady receiving XCD$500 (US$185) and the man receiving XCD$1350 (US$500).

Capacity Development: Apart from the acquisition of knowledge by the members of the NGO, there were no other specific training opportunities.

The group which was undertaking a project of that scale for the first time learned many lessons including: (i) the importance of clear and constant communications with all partners; (ii) the importance of having clear and SMART objectives; and (iii) the need for constant monitoring and evaluation.

The group also produced a FG proposal for project implementation which was approved by the NSC.
