Persistent Organic Pollutants and Health Publication
Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs), are the chemical substances which are severe permanent in the environment, accumulate in the organism through with food chainsThey have significant risks to human health and the environment. POPs are spread to the environment in many different ways as pesticides, released combustion of chlorinated compounds and petroleum products, from the industrial production and various ways used in daily life. They are transported long distances, and in this way they accumulate in the tissues of plants and animals have serious adverse effects on the environment and human health. POPs cause various systemic diseases especially the cancers, birth defects and reproductive health problems that affect society. POPs are the most common environmental pollutants that affect public health.
The aim of this project is to raise awareness of POPs among the physicians, environmental engineers, politicians and democratic mass organizations and to create objective data for the prevention of their use in our country. Additionally we targeted to contribute to the development of recommendations to be converted into action on POPs by relevant institutions and organizations. This project work will enable to achieve a book with a comprehensive framework and an up to date knowledge of literature.
