General Objective: Replacing the traditional hives by modern hives reducing the risk of forest fires and significantly increasing honey production.
Specific Objectives: (i) Contribute to better forest management reducing risk of fires
(ii) Increase honey production through the improvement of hives, (iii) Increase revenues through the sale of increased production of honey, (iv) Strength the organizational capacity of beekeepers in the management of forest resources, the production of honey and its commercialization.
Project Results: (i) 100 beekeepers are trained in techniques of operation and maintenance of improved hives, (ii) Each beekeeper increases seven times its production by honeycomb improved introduced, (iii) Each beekeeper increases its revenue from sales of honey in 7 times more, (iv) Part of the proceeds from the sale of honey by beekeepers are invested to increase the number of hives improved (more 100 hives per season annual production), (v) 50 women are trained in techniques of transforming derived honey, (vi) Each woman will contribute to the production of x kg of Pope and y soap units whose income is z% of the resale price by the Astecap, (vii) Each tabanca planted until July 2013, 125 seedlings of 10 varieties of species in fragile or degraded forest areas, with a rate of Success of at least 90% by the end of the project, (viii) Surveillance Committee formed in each calendar tabanca meets the execution of fire prevention activities with a reduction in forest fires on at least 50%
Project Principal Activities: (i) Distribution of 200 hives improved among the best honey producers from 8 tabancas, (ii) Training on the operation and maintenance of the hives, (iii) Regular monitoring of hives, (iv) Collection and purchase of honey produced to beekeepers (iv) Training of women in the production of honey derivatives (porridge for babies, candles, soaps and sweets), (v) Purchase of derivatives to producers, (vi) Training in revenue management by the beekeepers beneficiaries, (vII) Purchase of hives with proceeds from the sale of honey produce, (viii) Purchasing a mill to increase production of honey porridge, (ix) Acquisition of a jackhammer to extract the oil from the coconut palm to increase production of soap, (x) Acquiring a furnace to increase the production of, (xi) Training in prevention of fires, (xii) Creation of a committee of surveillance of fires, (xiii) Implementation of activities for the prevention of fires, (xiv) Reforestation of degraded areas with about 125 seedlings of 10 forest species of medicinal, economic and ecological interest
