Reduction of Climate Change Effects on Yenice Forests
Reduction of Climate Change Effects on Yenice Forests
The impacts of climate change dramatically increased in the world. Especially Mediterranean region which also includes Turkey is one of the geographical area that will be more affected by climate change impacts. One of the methods to minimize climate change impacts is to increase carbon storages. Forest ecosystems is the main ecosystem which store highest carbons on the world. Through increasing carbon storage on forest ecosystems in the western black sea forests where Turkish forests are densified, climate change impacts will be minimised.

Project will not only minimize climate change impacts at global level but also will support sustainable mangement of forest ecosystems in the western black sea region at the national level. With this Project, ecosystem servcies provided by Yenice forests and traditional and current uses of forests by the local people will be determined. Threats to forest ecosystems in the region and potential advantages and opportunities will be analysed.

By taking into account positive impacts of forest ecosystems on climate change, Alternative Income Generation Strategy which identify what kind of economic activities may be implemented in the region and which criteria and rules shall be followed will be prepared. Local people and stakeholders will be informed and trained about the financial and other resources to realize the alternative income generation activities defined in the strategy and the ways to reach this resources. A model structure that explains what kind of mechanism should be established and who will be actors for the mechanism will be determined. This mechanism will be important for monitoring the impacts of project results. An important activity of the Project is to train local people and other stakeholders about the term of climate change , impacts on forest ecosystems and measures to be taken against to this.
