Flooded Forest & Fish Refuge Management for Livelihood Improvement of
Community Based Eco Tourism at Kampong Phluk Commune, Prasat Bakong District, Siem Reap province project
Flooded Forest and Fish Refuge Management of Community Based Eco-Tourism at Kampong Phluk Commune, Prasat Bakong District, Siem Reap Province. The project is aiming at improving the economic and ecological resilience of target areas by conservation of more than 7,909 ha of flooded forest and planting flooded forest over 15 ha of degraded land. In addition to that the project also conserved 13 ha of fish refuge to increase natural fish stock in the target areas. To build community resilience livelihood, project will strengthening CBET committee members and provide some eco-tourism facilities for sustainable run and manage of the Kampong Phuk Eco-torism which benefit more than 700 poor community members.
The specific objectives of the project are (i) By mid of 2014 some prioritized activities in the management plan of Kampong Phluk CFi recognized by Siem Reap FiAC implemented & (ii) By mid of 2014, the community based eco-tourism have strengthened their capacity in sustainable management in order to improve livelihood of community members.
Project outpts and activities:
? 5480 ha of existing flooded forest and 18 ha of fish refuge conservation are sustainable managed.
? 15 ha of flooded forest replanted for fish shelter.
? The way to fish refuge conservation area with 2,800 m x 4.5 m x 2.5 m x 0.3 m rehabilitated in purpose of supporting to the patrolling activities during dry season.
? One new patrolling house with 3 m x 4 m x 6 m constructed in purpose of flooded forest protecting activities.
? One new dock with 7 m x 18 m constructed an existing dock with 6 m x 13 m rehabilitated for attracting tourist
? The solar equipment installed on dock for connection to computer for using to record daily income and expend of KPCBET.
? Two rest rooms constructed on dock for tourist using without negative impact to the environment
? At least 700 women headed household have increased their income by provide service on boat rowing to local and international tourist
? One case study and one video documentary about success of the project developed/produced and widely disseminated.
Project Activities:
? Replanting 15 ha of degraded flooded forest.
? Protection of 5,480 ha of flooded forest and 18 ha fish refuge.
? Rehabilitation of road to fish refuge with 2,800 m x 4.5 m x 2.5 m x 0.3 m.
? Construction of new dock with 7 m x 18 m and rehabilitation of an existing dock with 6 m x 13 m,
? Installing some facilities on the new dock including two rest rooms and solar equipment.
? Capacity enhancement of 4 women community members in English language, basic financial management and computerization skill.
? Improving the livelihood of communities through provisional boat rowing service to tourist.
? Mobilizing support from community councils to participate in project implementation and the monitoring of progress.
? Collaboration with Fishery Administration Cantonment for technical & legal support.
? Develop project monitoring and evaluation tool with technical support from UNDP GEF SGP.
? Dissemination of lesson learnt, success stories, case studies and video documentaries via FACEBOOK page of KPCBET.
