Development of Vegetable Protein Sources and Native Herbal Dieng Mountains shelf peanut plant conservation and native medicinal plants on degraded land-based women's groups
GOAL
In 2015, Pekasiran village will became a center of development of vegetable protein source and indigenous herbs from Dieng Mountains.

OBJECTIVES
Objective 1 : To make demonstration plot (Demplot) of Dieng beans cultivation and agroherbal tourism garden as a pilot media and public education (agroherbal tourism).
Indicators :
1. There are good demplots of Dieng beans cultivation which uses conservation principle in a total of 1 ha area in the groups and members? lands.
2. There is a 1 ha agroherbal garden of indigenous herbs from Dieng Mountains in tourism location of Pekasiran Village.
Activities :
1. Demplot of Dieng beans cultivation.
Dieng beans plant has a morphology of branch and root that are quite good for ground covering so that it can reduce the area of critical land, and its root can help fertilize the soil. Because of human action in potato monoculture, Dieng beans plants are getting fewer. Dieng beans is a source of vegetable protein for Dieng community because animal protein, especially from fish is very hard to get. Because the plants are fewer, the seeds are fewer, too. Fewer seeds make the seed price very expensive, thus it is very difficult for farmers to cultivate it. In this demplot activity, some types of Dieng beans with different harvesting age and frequency will be planted. The types of beans are as follows:
? Faba Beans (Vicia faba) with harvesing age of 5 months and harvesting frequency of 2 times.
? Wild soybeans (Glycine soja) with harvesting age of 4 months and harvesting frequency of 2 times.
? Peas (Pisum sativum), with harvesting age of 3 months and harvesting frequency of 2 times.
? Beans (Phaseolus sp) with harvesting age of 7 months and gradual harvesting frequency according to fruit/beans condition.
? Rice beans (Vigna umbellata) with harvesting age of 3 months and harvesting frequency of 1 times.
? Cowpea (Vigna unguiculata) with harvesting age of 3 months and harvesting frequency of 1 times.
? Adzuki beans (Vigna sp) with harvesting age of 3 months and harvesting frequency of 1 times.
The stages in making demplot are: preparing definite plan for the groups, preparing the lands, provisioning the seeds, provisioning the water/irrigation, planting, fertilizing and maintaining the plants. If planted at the right time by the end of raining season in 2013 and in the beginning of raining season in 2014, the beans can be harvested three times during 18 months planting period especially for beans with short harvesting age.
The demplot making activity will involve many parties, both individuals and groups. In terms of cultivation techniques, Department of Agriculture of Banjarnegara Regency will give support through cultivation training. In terms of facilitation, the activity will be facilitated by a facilitator from Yogyakarta region SCBFWM, and during its implementation in the locations, the groups members will be facilitated by KPL Wana Lestari, Pekasiran Village.
The demonstration plots will be located at three (3) locations. The first is located at Cemetery block in a 0.5 ha of property land rented by the village because the land owned by the village is far and is being planted by the community. The second is located at Legetan Block in a 0.25 ha of land owned by Nurhadi (a member of CBO Wana Lestari) with 10 percent sharing of beans yield for the landowner. The third is located at Jampang Block in a 0.25 ha of land owned by Sugiarti (a member of KWT Wana Lestari) with 10 percent sharing of beans yield for the landowner.
2. Making Agroherbal Garden
The making of agroherbal garden is to save plants which can be used for family medicine or herbal industries. The morphology of branch and root of herbal plant is useful for critical land conservation in terms of its ground covering ability. Most of herbal plants are shrubs which can grow under the shade of a tree, so that they can be interplanted with main tree and can be harvested before the main tree can be harvested. There will be around 56 collections of Dieng indigenous herbal plants in the garden. Some of them are:
? Brazillian begonia (Begonia hirtella) with its fruit for sprue.
? Roseleaf bramble (Rubus rosaefolius) with its leaf for stomachache, cough and to maintain pregnancy; fruit for sprue.
? Sambong (Blumea balsamifera) with its leaf for fever, cough, to induce perspiration, mosquito repellent and aphrodisiac.
? Sword leaf dianella (Dianella ensifola) with its leaf for urinary tract inflammation and root for rat poison
? Galar (Alsophila Glaura) with its leaf for cough.
? Chinese wild peony (Melastoma polyanthum) with its leaf for diarrhea, thrush, colitis and sprue; roots and sap for seizures and epilepsy
? Rustyhair raspberry (Rubus reflekus) with its leaf for diarrhea; root for hemorrhoid; fruit for sprue.
The herbs is listed completely in the appendix.
There are two plantings systems. The first is by planting the plants in polybags or pots under plastic or paranet shade. The other is by planting directly in the ground without shade. Some plants will be placed on bamboo shelves and some directly on the ground.
The herbal garden will have three main functions, namely: as a demplot of herbs breeding, as production garden of medicinal plants, and as educational tourism garden for public especially for school and college students or those who are competent. Herbs are usually planted along the year with gradual harvesting system.
The herbal garden will be located around tourism object of Candradimuka crater, Dringo Lake, Sinila and Jalatunda Well in the village-owned land with area of 1 ha. The stages to manifest the herbal garden are: making location model, preparing the site, fencing the garden, fencing the location with live plants, making a plastic house, making bamboo shelves, provisioning the herbs' seeds, provisioning the planting media, planting, maintaining, provisioning the fertilizers, irrigating, provisioning garden tools and provisioning information boards.
This activity will involve multiple parties, both individual and groups or institutional. KWT Wana Lestari will be supported by Agriculture Agency, and Forestry and Plantation Agency of Banjarnegara Regency in terms of cultivation techniques; by Department of Health and SCBFWM in terms of facilitation; by Work Team of Dieng Area Recovery (TKPKD) and Regional Development Planning Board (Bappeda) of Banjarnegara Regency in terms of seed provisioning; by Department of Tourism and Culture of Banjarnegara in terms of tourism development; by CBO Wana Lestari, motivator cadres of village Family Welfare Movement (PKK) and Village Youth Group in terms of the implementation in the location; by unit management activity of PNPM Mandiri of Batur District, Banjarnegara Polytechnic, Bappeda of Banjarnegara Regency and motivator cadres of PKK of Banjarnegara Regency in terms of processing the results.
The activities will begin in August 2013 when the asphalting process of roads from the Regency to tourism location has been finished. However the preparation of the location will begin earlier.
