“Promotion of preservation of the local gene pool of rare endangered species, restoration of biodiversity of fruit trees and vineyards in Ghonchi district.”
The project aims at the restoration, preservation, reproduction of endangered biodiversity species of stone fruit and pome fruit crops, grapes, as well as plant species suitable for anchoring the soil from wind and water erosion. All of the above can be done by selecting and creating a kennel for the named plants. In the face of climate change in the North of Tajikistan with the implementation of different hybrids species and alien plant species are noticeably vanishing the local species adapted fruit plants, which are the local gene pool and are particularly valuable for improving the quality of life, food security in the rapidly growing population. High palatability of fruits, rich in sugars, vitamins, organic acids and other physiologically active substances are important to human health. Created new varieties-hybrids and GM samples are displacing local species of plants that are adapted to our climate, that grew in the region for thousands of years. The disappearance of traditional crop varieties also will have an impact on climate change and food security. Endangered local adapted species of fruit plants were pulled back by our "breeders" and adapted in our sub-continental conditions.
Description of the problem and the reasons for its occurrence:
Tajikistan is one of the most ancient regions of cultivation of fruit plants in Central Asia. As a result of centuries-old folk-breeding growers selected the best varieties and forms of stone fruit, pome, nut, subtropical plants and grapes, the fruits of which by sugar content and other characteristics successfully compete with the best world standards and are adapted to local climatic conditions
As is known, the native species and varieties of fruit crops, prized for its taste, as they are rich in vitamins, sugars, organic acids and other biologically active substances that are important to human health, and affecting the quality of life, food security. Therefore, you must propagate local species of fruit trees, because these crops more adapted to our climate. Dried fruits have contributed to the survival of the population in extreme conditions (the Great Patriotic War of Soviet Union and the civil war). Particularly rich the selection of apricot, grape, peach, nut and subtropical crops
Local varieties of dry fruit of apricot ?Mirsandjeli Surkh" contain 78% sugar. Local grape varieties are superior to the best world class not only on the content of sugars, but also for long term storage, i.e. long-term storage, transportability, precocity, size of berries and bunches and many other features (some disappearing late harvest grapes of local breeding can be stored until next year's harvest). In 2012 we conducted the research in Sughd oblast (within the framework of the project "Regional research on impact of climate change on human health" in northern Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan with financial support of Act Central Asia). Based on these studies, it became clear that as a result of climate change in many areas of northern Tajikistan reduced the number of the best varieties of traditional breeding. At present, there is no any farm in northern Tajikistan has special uterine plantings of traditional breeding, fruits of which are consistent with the original standards. For this reason, there is cleavage, i.e. all positive signs peculiar to these grades are deteriorated, which leads to the full disappearance. In addition there are no special nursery-garden, which dealing with reproduction of endangered and rare species and varieties of plants.

In recent years, the ecological environment is deteriorating rapidly. It?s proven that climate change is a consequence of the adverse human impact on the environment. In recent years, due to the lack of heat and electricity in winter period, people began to mercilessly chop down a forest and use them as fuel. As a result of the reduction of forest areas in the mountains and the foothills the snow cover in spring time thaws quickly, and mountain streams, connecting among themselves, the very eyes turn into scary unmanaged rivers that wash away all in its path, stones and all living vegetation leaving behind a deeply eroded unsuitable land. Thus, every year forest cover in Sogd oblast especially in Ganchi district is dramatically reduced. It is therefore necessary to create nurseries-garden to multiply drought-resistant, fast-growing plant suitable for rehabilitation of eroded lands.

In addition, anthropogenic impacts and climate change becomes the main causes of the disappearance of traditional cultures. Solving these problems requires special attention from the man: preserving and restoring species for the environment and for humanity as a whole. The problem of preserving species and adaptation measures to climate change is one of the main tasks of humanity, which requires big efforts to be undertaken prior to the ecological crisis. Climate change in Tajikistan shows up as debris flows, avalanches, landslides, strong winds, abnormal heat, extreme cold, and as a result there is a disappearance of local flora and fauna, glaciers, etc. Tajikistan is a mountainous country. From 143.1 million square kilometers of territory, only 7% are plains. Based on this, gardening in Tajikistan should be developed, taking into account the soil-climatic conditions of the area, i.e. micro-watersheds. More frequent droughts, devastating floods caused by overflows of glacial lakes, the erosion of hillsides, more frequent landslides will lead to increased economic damage threatened the security of the population, and would reduce the opportunities for people to get out of poverty. These negative effects will be exacerbated by a projected 67 percent of the country's population growth during the 21 century, which will further increase the socio-economic and ecological problems. Projected climate change will very likely threat to economic activity, human welfare and the environment in Tajikistan ", says in a new report of the Asian Development Bank (ADB).
All of the above mentioned served as a justification for developing this project on restoration and conservation of valuable reproduction of local fruit plants that have been bred by our ancient ?breeders? and have been adapted in our sub-continental conditions. It should be noted that in past decades the screening of the best endangered varieties of fruit crops and the creation of special cuttings-uterine gardens wasn?t conducted.
The benefits of local varieties of fruit crops endangered are the following:
Fast bearing fruit, precocity creates an opportunity to quickly recover the costs of land and maintenance;

The persistence of these varieties will make it possible to save endangered varieties of fruit trees in particularly adapted to the local climate;

Can compete with the best world sorts and transportable;

Dried fruits of local varieties have many buyers, especially in Russia and Kazakhstan.

It?s possible quickly propagate endangered species for the region.

To ensure the food security of the population;

The fruits possess valuable taste; contain more nutrients and biologically active substances, a high concentration of sugar, fructose and vitamin deficiencies.

The restoration and cultivation of traditional fruit trees using modern biotechnology can contribute in a short time the conservation of rare plants and ensure food security
The main goal of the project is the development of agro-forestry for climate change mitigation and the preservation of the local gene pool of rare-endangered species biodiversity-stone and pome fruit trees, grapes adapted to local conditions of climate change in northern Tajikistan.

Project Characteristics and Results
Notable Community Participation
Justification the choice of pilot households for realization of the project: In March 2013 was conducted the study by Piarei method to assess the priority needs of the Community (with the participation the residents of the area) in 6 dekhkan households of Ghonchi district. The results showed that there are more than 24 problems in areas, but as the most priority were selected 3 issues: ? The reduction the number of highly valuable endangered species of fruit trees ? The lack of information and skills on the cultivation, conservation and restoration of valuable species and bio farming ? The lack of possibility to storage and export of products for sale. In connection with possibility, lack of access to information concerning methods of conservation and species of particularly valuable endangered species of fruit trees, not all dehkan households were ready and had the desire to work for the conservation of valuable breeds. Dehkan economy of Jamoat Mudjum of Ganchi ditrict and community members of the dekhkan communities. Hamrokulov B, Khudoiberdiev Kh, Abdusamadov of Jamoat Ganchi, Otakarimov of Jamoat Gazantarak having identical problems have shown initiative and desire to collaborate in program activities, offering a way out of this situation. As a result, of realization the project 2.000 families of Djamoat Mudjum of Ghonchi district and community members of the dekhkan communities. Hamrokulov B, Khudoiberdiev Kh, Abdusamadov of Jamoat Ganchi, Otakarimov of Jamoat Gazantarak will benefit from the project, among them 3240 - women, 1800 - men, 790 ? youth. Special attention will also be brought from representatives of local authorities, departments of agriculture and nature protection of the district regarding the problem of the disappearance of local varieties adapted to climate change. Local population would be involved in project implementation as the solution of identified problems is in their interests and needs. Local people will be involved in planting seedlings and cuttings fruit trees, irrigation and agricultural processing. Local residents, using land for planting seedlings can profit from it. This will improve the social and economic situation of participants of the project. During the drafting project preliminary discussions was held with the local community, local farmers, residents and local authorities about working together on project's implementation. Local people expressed interest in joint implementation of the project because as a result of the project implementation they will receive great benefit, executing the project will change the ecology of the region, will suspend land erosion and restoring endangered species? Dekhkan communities Hamrokulov B, Khudoiberdiev Kh, Abdusamadov of Jamoat Mudjum, dekhkan communities Otakarimov of Jamoat Gazantarak of Ganchin district of Sogd oblast endorsed our project and are ready to provide support in the form of partially financing the project, technical support with equipment, provision the land within their territories. The project will be implemented in Dekhkan communities Hamrokulov B, Khudoiberdiev Kh, Abdusamadov of Jamoat Mudjum, dekhkan community Otakarimov of Jamoat Gazantarak of Ganchin ditrict of Sogd oblast. 38 people, 20 of them women and 18 men will be involved in project realization.
